INFOSHEET DEUTSCHbpitch control schickt sich an, mit der neuen reihe boogy bytes die gute alte mix-cd neu zu erfinden. schon der auftakt ist einzigartig: sowohl der mix, die remixe als auch die cd als ganzes sind auf jeweils eigene weise etwas neues. so ist schon bei der ersten cd vol. 01- mixed by kiki das cover auffallend anders, das von einem kopf und haare schüttelnden kiki geziert wird. der renommierte fotograf und herausgeber des „dong mag“ axl jansen (www.dongmag.de, www.axljansen.com) hatte mit dieser bildidee unlängst eine ausstellung, von der ellen allien so begeistert war, dass sie ihm sofort vorschlug, für die boogy bytes-reihe zu fotografieren.
nun aber zur musik: boogy bytes vol. 01 hat 16 tracks, die aber eigentlich aus 25 tracks bestehen. diese werden erst digital aufgedröselt und aufgespießt und dann einer auf oder in den anderen gestapelt wie exquisite finnische pastetchen. wenn dann die elefanten von andre kramls „safarie“ durch donal tierney trampeln oder kikis vocals aus „the end of the world“ sich über guy gerbers „stoppage time“ ausbreiten, dann ist das backkunst vom feinsten.
für den in helsinki geborenen kiki, der schon früh als hip hop-dj zugange war, ist das mixen eine selbstverständlichkeit. seine erfolgreiche cd „run with me“ kann als vorreiter für dieses beeindruckende neue release gesehen werden. es ist ein hörvergnügen, das durch die feinfühlige auswahl der tracks und deren gekonnten mix steigt und steigt und ... vom start bis zum, ... ähm ..., „finnish“ – die 16 (bzw. 25) tracks nehmen einen nicht nur mit auf reisen, sondern beamen dich direkt in den himmel. vielleicht könnte man es als „dance music soufflé“ beschreiben, mit kiki als dj julia child. auf jeden fall aber ist es das neue ding! |

INFOSHEET ENGLISHbpitch inaugurates a new kind of mix cd. boogy bytes is new in that the mix, the remixes and the entire cd is a unique piece of work. even the cover, a snapshot of kiki shaking his head by axl jansen, is its own. when ellen allien saw an exhibition of the photografer and publisher of the dong mag axl jansen (www.dongmag.de, www.axljansen.com) with his “shaking heads” pictures, she immediately loved the idea and asked him to colaborate.
boogy bytes vol. 1 has 16 tracks, but really it has 25 tracks, all digitally spliced and bifurcated, then layered on top and within one another like a fine finnish pastry -- like when the elephants from andre kraml's "safari" trample through donal tierney; or when the vocals from kiki's "the end of the world" climb over guy gerber's "stoppage time".
born in helsinki, kiki himself was a young hip-hop dj, and can regularly be seen on 3 turntables, so this blending comes as second nature. his well-received run with me cd ("glamorous" ˆ simon reynolds) was a precursor to this astonishing project: an expertly mixed, delicately balanced, gradually ascending delight. from start to, well, finnish, the 16 or 25 tracks don't take you on a journey as much as they teleport you to heaven. perhaps it's a kind of dance music soufflé, and kiki is dj julia child. this thing is literally next level. |
